Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's death the family of Ford, they were taken care of by her mother, grandmother as well as godparents. While a small girl, Ford was battling obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by word associations. Ford became attracted to acting in her teenage years she joined the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted at the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that it wasn't the ideal location for her. Ford applied instead at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered the position she wanted on her third attempt. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was also one of her classmates. Ford was able to graduate in 1993. She made her television debut in a 1992 episode of Surgical Spirit. She adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Alongside her usual performances in the theatre, Tate also joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies, that were added to Tate's selection in the year 1996.
